Stoa Debate Events
1/Lincoln Douglas Debate - Resolved: National security concerns ought to be valued above individual rights.
2/Parliamentary Debate - Resolutions are announced at the beginning of each round.
3/Team Policy Debate - Resolved: The United States Federal Government should substantially reform its energy policy.
Every debater is required to time themselves from the podium, bringing their timepiece with them to the tournament. We're not picky about the kind of timepiece you bring as long as it can count down and make an audible sound when time runs out.
Also please display the highest integrity while self-timing and confirm your timepiece settings with your opponent.
Guidelines for self-timing:
+Debaters should use a count-down timer that beeps when time is up.
+Each debater will time his or her own speeches.
+The debater asking the questions will time cross-examination.
+Each team will time its own prep-time and announce the time used to the judge and opposing team.

Important Info for Extemp Competitors
1. The Extemp Prep Room is Room 114 located on the ground floor in the Preschool area.
2. Watch for draw times and draw order as it is your responsibility to know your own draw time and to arrive on time. It is your responsibility to know your speaker position, your draw time, and your speak time. We expect you to use this information to manage your time appropriately. As a reminder, your speak time begins exactly 30 minutes after your draw time. This includes walking to and arrival at your competition room. The judges will have a list of speak times, and they will expect you to begin your speech at the correct time for your speaker position
3. It will not be possible to store competitor equipment or supplies so you must maintain possession of your valuable items at all times. You may bring your laptop into the prep room at your draw time. You need to pick up your laptop after each Extemp round is finished. Do not leave your belongings in the Extemp prep room after the round. We will not be responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen items.
4. Label EVERYTHING with your name, club name, and phone number – laptops, files boxes, power cords, extension cords, etc.
5. Make sure that your laptop is fully charged before your prep time. You may not have access to an electrical outlet in the Extemp Prep Room.
6. You must check in with the Proctor at the start of your prep time and check out when your prep time is over.
7. During prep time we will have a visible clock and we will call out time notifications regarding remaining prep time. It is your responsibility to arrive promptly at your competition room and speak at your designated speaker time.
8. Remember, according to the Extemp Prep Room Protocol, Competitors may not talk in the Extemp Prep Room.
10. Be sure that you are familiar with the official Stoa Extemp Rules and the Extemp Prep Room Protocol.
